Accessing Resources

School and Faculty resources

Resources will differ considerably according to the School and Faculty in which you are employed.

Your course coordinator/supervisor will provide you with all of the necessary course materials such as course outline and reading materials. Your School support and contact person will provide you with access to office space, office supplies, phone, fax and computer facilities.  If you have problems accessing any of the resources that you need, you should see your course coordinator/supervisor, or your Head of School.

Staff ID card

Once you have signed your employment contract, it will be sent to Human Resources by your School for processing.  Once it has been processed, Human Resources will email your employee number to your supervisor.  This process should take approximately 24 hours.

Your employee number is required to complete a Staff ID Card Application Form which your School will provide.  You will need to take the completed form to FM Assist which is located on Level 2 Mathews Building F23 (entry via Mathews Pavilions) and is open from 08:00 AM until 04:30 PM Monday to Friday. During enrolments FM Assist is open for extended hours.

They will issue you with a Staff ID Card  which allows you to access Library, email and internet services. The FM website is http://www.facilities.unsw.edu.au/Campus/fmassist/index.htm

Call x55111 or for external calls 9385 5111 or email fmassist@unsw.edu.au.

Library Access

The University Library and its services are available to all staff.  Once you have a staff ID card, you will have full borrowing rights.  For further information about the Library's location, opening hours, borrowing rights and other facilities, please visit the UNSW Library website at http://info.library.unsw.edu.au/

The University Library provides a range of services to assist Sessional Staff in understanding how to identify what information is required for their teaching; how to find the right information to support teaching endeavours and how to use the right information most effectively. Each faculty has an Outreach librarian who can assist you if needed.  To find the contact details of the Outreach librarian for your Faculty visit http://info.library.unsw.edu.au/web/help/contacts.html.

Email and Internet Access

Email and internet access are available for all staff.  To connect you will need a Unipass number which can be obtained at the IT Service Desk, which is located on the 2nd floor of the University Library.  If you have an active Employee Number, you can also put in a request for your Unipass number by phone, on 9385 1333.  For a summary of the online services that are available to staff, you can visit the IT Services website at http://www.its.unsw.edu.au/support/support_home.html.

  • Seeking information or advice regarding hazards and procedures where necessary, before carrying out new or unfamiliar work

Staff should raise any OHS issues with their immediate supervisor in the first instance. If this is not possible at the time, the staff member or student may contact the Head of School or Unit Manager.
